Cheteshwar Pujara, India’s veteran Test batsman, has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. The 37-year-old played 103 Test matches from his debut in 2010 until his last appearance in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia. Over his career, Pujara scored 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries, making him India’s eighth-highest Test run-scorer. Known for his resilience and patience, he was regarded as a key figure in India’s batting lineup, especially after Rahul Dravid’s retirement. Pujara expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent India and thanked fans, teammates, and coaches in a social media statement. His retirement follows those of former India captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in recent years. Former India captain Anil Kumble congratulated Pujara on his career, praising his dedication and contributions to Indian cricket. Pujara has continued to play domestic and county cricket in England since his last international match. His career is noted for significant innings, including a double century against England in 2012 and a crucial role in India’s 2018-19 Test series victory in Australia.
