The body of a three-year-old boy was found in a dustbin inside the lavatory of AC coach B2 of the Kushinagar Express at Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus early Saturday. A cleaning staff member discovered the body around 1 am while preparing the train for its onward journey. Preliminary investigation revealed marks on the boy’s neck, indicating he was allegedly killed by throat slitting. Police suspect the boy’s 25-year-old cousin, who is absconding, of the crime. The boy was reportedly kidnapped from Surat, Gujarat, where his mother had filed a complaint against the cousin on August 21, accusing him of kidnapping. The Mumbai Government Railway Police, with forensic support, is investigating the case, and Surat police have reached Mumbai to confirm the child’s identity. The Kushinagar Express runs between Gorakhpur and Mumbai. Authorities are confident of arresting the suspect soon. (Updated 23 Aug 2025, 19:47 IST; source: link)
