Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has written to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urging a ban on the live telecast and streaming of the India-Pakistan match in the upcoming Asia Cup, citing national interest and public sentiment. She referenced the April Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, a counter-terrorism campaign targeting Pakistan's alleged sponsorship of terrorism. Chaturvedi expressed that proceeding with the match contradicts the government's zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and called the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports' insistence on India's participation morally wrong. She compared the situation to historical sports boycotts, including South Africa during apartheid and Pakistan's own boycott of the Asia Hockey Cup in India. The MP described any profits from the match as "cursed money" linked to victims of terror attacks and soldiers' sacrifices. She urged the government to prioritize national interest over sportsmanship and block the match's broadcast across all platforms if it occurs. The Asia Cup is scheduled for next month, with the India-Pakistan match set for September 14 in Dubai.[1][2][3] (Updated 23 Aug 2025, 10:39 IST; source: link)
