Seed cycling is a nutritional practice where women consume specific seeds during the two phases of their menstrual cycle to support hormone balance. During the follicular phase (days 1–14), flax and pumpkin seeds are eaten, while in the luteal phase (days 15–28), sesame and sunflower seeds are consumed. Flax seeds contain lignans that help regulate estrogen, and pumpkin seeds provide zinc to support progesterone production. Sesame seeds may help block excess estrogen, and sunflower seeds offer vitamin E and selenium to aid hormone balance. Although some women report benefits such as reduced PMS symptoms and improved cycle regularity, medical experts note there is no strong scientific evidence that seed cycling directly regulates menstrual cycles. However, the seeds are nutrient-dense and beneficial for reproductive health. Experts recommend focusing on overall nutrition, including iron, magnesium, omega-3s, B vitamins, probiotics, fiber, and hydration. Seeds should be ground for better absorption and incorporated into daily meals. Seed cycling is not a substitute for medical advice, and consultation with a doctor is advised before using it for hormonal issues. (Updated 22 Aug 2025, 23:14 IST; source: link)
