Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Transport Department to prioritize purchasing electric buses manufactured within the state to promote industrial growth and local employment. During a review of the Transport Department and UPSRTC, he emphasized passenger convenience, faster construction of bus stations, expansion of electric bus operations, road safety, and revenue enhancement. Officials reported development of 23 world-class bus terminals under a PPP model, with 54 more planned and 50 under construction. UPSRTC is establishing electric depots in eight cities with high-capacity chargers. The Chief Minister also called for identifying new routes and encouraging private sector participation. He noted over 78 lakh passengers used free travel during Rakshabandhan, extended to women and one family member. Vehicle registrations reached 37.9 lakh in 2024-25, with over 11 lakh registered by June. Tax and fee exemptions exceeding ₹942 crore support electric mobility, and the ‘No Helmet–No Fuel’ rule is enforced to improve road safety. He instructed use of modern technology and police coordination to reduce accidents. (Updated 22 Aug 2025, 21:41 IST; source: link)
