India Targets 6G Rollout By 2030 With Bharat 6G Vision

The Indian government aims to roll out 6G technology by 2030, aligning with the International Telecommunication Union’s IMT-2030 framework. The Bharat 6G Vision Document (2023) sets the goal for India to become a global leader in 6G networks, offering ultra-high data speeds, reduced latency, AI-driven networks, and seamless coverage through terrestrial and satellite systems. To build a 6G-ready ecosystem, 100 5G labs have been established in academic institutions to support startups and researchers. The Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF), launched in 2022, has approved 104 projects worth Rs 275.88 crore for 6G-related research and development, involving collaborations among academia, startups, MSMEs, and industry. The Bharat 6G Alliance unites domestic industry, research bodies, and academia, and has signed MoUs with global 6G alliances. Research at IIIT Bangalore focuses on technologies like Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces and O-RAN Massive MIMO to enhance future 6G networks. The initiative aims not only to advance telecommunications but also to foster innovation, manufacturing, and digital sovereignty, positioning India alongside global technology leaders by 2030.
