Heavy rainfall on Friday caused severe waterlogging in several areas of Sawai Madhopur district, Rajasthan, disrupting normal life and affecting the railway station premises. Commuters and residents faced difficulties due to inundated streets and water accumulation. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Jaipur issued a red alert for heavy rains and thunderstorms in Sawai Madhopur until 12 pm, followed by a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls for the next four days. The India Meteorological Department reported a strengthening monsoon from August 14 due to low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal moving west-northwest, resulting in active monsoon conditions over central and southern India. During the week, these regions received normal to above-normal rainfall, with India overall experiencing 22 percent more rainfall than usual. The monsoon trough shifted south of its normal position, contributing to the active monsoon conditions and rainfall surplus in many meteorological subdivisions of central and south peninsular India.
