Seven Senior Leaders Resign Citing Family Favoritism

2 min read

The Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), a BJP ally in Bihar, is facing internal turmoil after seven senior leaders resigned on November 27, 2025, accusing party chief Upendra Kushwaha of promoting dynastic politics. The controversy erupted when Kushwaha appointed his son, Deepak Prakash, who holds no elected position, as a minister instead of choosing from the party's four elected MLAs. The resignations include the party's official number two, state president, and several general secretaries. The RLM had performed well in the recent Bihar Assembly polls, winning four of the six seats it contested as part of the NDA coalition. The party received one ministerial berth in the state government after the NDA's sweeping victory, securing 202 of 243 seats. Critics point out that Kushwaha's family now dominates the party, with his son as minister, himself as Rajya Sabha MP, and his wife as Sasaram MLA.

Seven Senior Leaders Resign Citing Family Favoritism

Jitendra Nath, who served as the RLM's official number two for nine years, led the exodus along with state president Mahendra Kushwaha and five other senior functionaries including state general secretary Rahul Kumar and district-level in-charges from Nalanda, Jamui, Lakhisarai, and Shekhpura. The departing leaders accused Upendra Kushwaha of abandoning socialist principles and prioritizing family advancement over party workers. Nath revealed that Kushwaha had been uncertain about his political future after the party drew a blank in the 2020 Assembly polls. Mahendra Kushwaha called the RLM chief a "fallen pillar of socialist politics" who preached moral values but failed to follow them. Rahul Kumar stated there is now "no difference" between Kushwaha and other leaders who only promote their families, leaving no space for ordinary workers in the party.
