The general secretary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Dattatreya Hosabale, has called on the Union government to quickly create a population policy to address what he describes as demographic imbalance in India. Speaking on the final day of the RSS all-India executive body meeting in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Hosabale stressed that the sooner such a policy is implemented, the better it will be for the country. He identified three main reasons for demographic imbalance: infiltration, religious conversion, and higher population growth rates in certain communities. Hosabale also linked demographic changes to national security concerns and urged action to stop infiltration and conversion. His comments follow earlier announcements by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman about addressing demographic challenges, though no concrete steps have been reported yet. The three-day RSS meeting saw participation from 397 delegates and covered several other national issues.

Call for swift population policy to address demographic concerns
Dattatreya Hosabale urged the government to formulate a population policy without delay during a press conference on the concluding day of the RSS executive body meeting in Jabalpur. He explained that infiltration, conversion, and differing population growth rates among communities are causing demographic imbalance. Hosabale rejected claims that discussing demographic imbalance is communal, instead framing it as a national security issue. He emphasized that while laws exist to prevent conversion, social efforts are also necessary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a mission to tackle demographic change during his August 15 Independence Day speech, warning of conspiracies altering the country's demography. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had also mentioned forming a committee in her February 2024 interim budget speech, though no updates on these initiatives have been provided.
