2 min read

Bihar's assembly election results for 2025 showed a decisive lead for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in early trends. The NDA crossed the 189-seat mark, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan trailed significantly at just 50 seats. Among individual candidates, BJP's Alinagar contender Maithili Thakur led with 22,236 votes, maintaining an 8,544-vote margin. The contest appeared one-sided as the NDA extended its advantage throughout the morning. JD(U) supporters celebrated at their Patna office, distributing sweets. Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, which positioned itself as an alternative, failed to make any impact on the leads list by 11 am. The election saw record voter participation at 66.91 percent, with women voters achieving a historic 71.6 percent turnout, surpassing men by 8.8 percentage points—the largest gender gap ever recorded in Bihar elections.

NDA Dominates as Vote Counting Progresses

The ruling NDA established a commanding position as early trends emerged. The alliance surpassed the 189-seat threshold, leaving the opposition Mahagathbandhan far behind at only 50 seats. BJP candidate Maithili Thakur from Alinagar constituency led strongly with 22,236 votes, ahead by 8,544 votes. The contest remained overwhelmingly in NDA's favor throughout the morning hours. JD(U) supporters began celebrations early, gathering at the Patna office to distribute sweets. Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, despite claiming to offer voters a fresh alternative, failed to register any presence on the leads or trailing list by 11 am. The Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD's Tejashwi Yadav with Congress support, aimed to end Nitish Kumar's two-decade tenure as Chief Minister but struggled to gain ground.
