Key Factors Behind NDA and Opposition Strategies

2 min read

Counting is underway for the Bihar Vidhan Sabha Election 2025, with the National Democratic Alliance working to turn its early advantage into a decisive majority. This election carries significance beyond seat tallies, as it will determine the internal power equation within the NDA itself. The BJP and JD(U) contested an equal number of constituencies, placing fresh scrutiny on Nitish Kumar's influence within the coalition. Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan under Tejashwi Yadav seeks to expand its voter base beyond its traditional Muslim–Yadav stronghold by reaching out to Extremely Backward Classes and riverine communities. Smaller parties, including Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj, could influence outcomes in closely contested seats. The results will reveal whether the NDA's multi-layered strategy or the opposition's broader social coalition has resonated with voters, shaping Bihar's political trajectory for the coming term.

Key Factors Behind NDA and Opposition Strategies

The NDA's campaign rested on three pillars: Nitish Kumar's established political reputation, targeted outreach to women through the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana via Jeevika groups, and a widened caste coalition featuring Chirag Paswan's LJP (Ram Vilas) and Upendra Kushwaha's RLM. Chirag's seat-share demand and performance will be closely monitored. On the other side, the Mahagathbandhan aimed to broaden its appeal by partnering with VIP and IIP to mobilise EBCs and riverine voters. Tejashwi Yadav positioned his youthful energy against Nitish's long tenure, while Congress sought visibility following Rahul Gandhi's Yatra. Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj, though unlikely to win many seats, could influence vote shares and affect margins in tight races.
