Tejashwi’s Birthday Campaign and Election Promises

2 min read

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav turned 36 years old on the final day of campaigning for the second phase of Bihar Assembly elections. He addressed 16 rallies on that day, including one in Ramgarh, a seat considered a bastion of RJD MP Sudhakar Singh's family. Tejashwi's younger brother Ajeet Singh is contesting from Ramgarh against BJP's Ashok Kumar Singh and BSP's Pintu Yadav in a triangular fight. During his brief speech, Tejashwi accused the Prime Minister, Union ministers, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and central agencies of conspiring against him. He promised one government job per family, increased social security pension to Rs 1,500, free electricity for farmers, and Rs 30,000 to women under a new scheme. The Ramgarh constituency, with significant Dalit and Rajput populations, saw a close BJP victory in the previous bypoll.

Tejashwi's Birthday Campaign and Election Promises

On the last day of campaigning, Tejashwi Yadav celebrated his 36th birthday while addressing multiple rallies across Bihar. At the Ramgarh rally, he claimed that the Prime Minister, Union ministers, Bihar Chief Minister, central agencies like ED, CBI, Income Tax Department, and the Election Commission had joined hands to stop him. He urged voters to remove the 20-year-old Nitish Kumar government. Tejashwi pledged to deliver one government job per family within 20 months, raise social security pensions to Rs 1,500, provide free electricity to farmers, and distribute Rs 30,000 to women under the proposed Maa Bahan Maan scheme. His speech lasted just over three minutes before he departed for other campaign venues.

Ramgarh Contest and Family Legacy

The Ramgarh seat features a triangular contest between BJP's Ashok Kumar Singh, RJD's Ajeet Singh, and BSP's Pintu Yadav. Ajeet is the younger brother of Buxar MP Sudhakar Singh, whose family has strong ties to this constituency. Their father, Jagdanand Singh, won Ramgarh six times between 1985 and 2005 and remains a respected Rajput leader in the RJD. The BJP won the previous bypoll by a narrow margin. With over 45,000 Dalits and around 40,000 Rajputs, both BSP and BJP hold significant influence. Local observers suggest the BSP candidate may lead, while Ajeet Singh could finish third, as he lacks his father's stature among voters.
