The RSS general secretary has called on the Union government to urgently introduce a population policy to address what the organisation describes as demographic imbalance. Speaking on the final day of the RSS all-India executive body meeting in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Dattatreya Hosabale emphasised that quicker implementation would be beneficial. His statement follows earlier announcements by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her February 2024 interim budget address, both mentioning initiatives to tackle demographic changes. However, no updates on these proposed measures have been released. The RSS attributes demographic imbalance to three factors: infiltration, religious conversion, and higher growth rates in certain communities. Hosabale stressed that addressing this issue is essential for national security and urged action against infiltration and conversion. The three-day meeting also covered topics including the situation in Manipur, drug addiction concerns, and RSS centenary activities.
Call for Urgent Population Policy and National Security Concerns
Dattatreya Hosabale urged the government to quickly formulate a population policy to correct demographic imbalance. He stated that the sooner such a policy is implemented, the better it will be for the nation. Hosabale identified three main causes of demographic imbalance: infiltration from neighbouring countries, religious conversion, and higher population growth rates in some communities. He argued that addressing demographic imbalance is crucial for national security, dismissing suggestions that raising this issue is communal. Hosabale also called for stopping infiltration and conversion, noting that while laws exist against conversion, efforts must also be made at the social level. The RSS has long raised concerns about demographic changes, particularly related to immigration from Bangladesh.
