Women's Representation Low in Bihar Assembly ElectionsSaralnama

Despite higher female voter turnout in Bihar, women's representation in the Assembly remains low. In the 2020 polls, only 26 of 370 women candidates won seats. For the upcoming elections, the NDA has fielded 34 women, while the Mahagathbandhan has given tickets to 30. The BJP and JD(U) have each nominated 13 women. Political parties' reluctance to field women is a key reason for low representation, says Dr Nirmala Kumari of Magadh University. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has implemented women-centric schemes like 50% reservation in panchayats. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has announced measures for rural women workers. To increase women's representation, voters can support qualified female candidates. (Updated 27 Oct 2025, 11:00 IST; source: link)
