Naga Leader Muivah Returns to Home Village After 50 YearsSaralnama

Thuingaleng Muivah, 91, leader of the Naga insurgency, returned to his native village Somdal in Manipur's Ukhrul. He landed by chopper at 3 pm, greeted by supporters waving Naga flags. Muivah, who joined the Naga National Council in 1964, hasn't visited his village in over 50 years. He attended a reception at Ukhrul district headquarters where his deputy spoke on his behalf. Muivah stressed the need for a Naga flag and constitution in any political settlement. The village prepared for a month for his week-long visit, building a helipad and erecting a statue. Locals, both young and old, welcomed him as a hero and inspiration. To visit Somdal, take permission from local authorities and respect community guidelines.
