RJD has chosen Mohammed Shahabuddin's son Osama Shahab as its candidate for the Raghunathpur Assembly seat in Bihar. The 30-year-old Osama will make his political debut from this seat in Siwan district. RJD dropped sitting MLA Hari Shanker Yadav to field Osama. Shahabuddin's wife Heena Shahab failed to win elections since his 2008 conviction. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Heena got 2.93 lakh votes as an Independent from Siwan. RJD is banking on Raghunathpur's Yadav population and votes from Muslims, EBCs, Dalits and upper castes. Osama studied law in London and returned to India after his father's death. He spent three months in jail last year over land dispute cases. To vote in Bihar elections, voters need to carry a valid photo ID to the polling booth. (Updated 16 Oct 2025, 17:28 IST; source: link)
