From 2026, CBSE will hold Class 10 board exams twice a year. The first exam will be in February and is compulsory. The second exam will be in May and optional. Students can improve their scores by taking the second exam. The best marks from both exams will count. This change aims to reduce exam stress and give students more chances to perform well. The exams will focus more on understanding and problem-solving. Marks will come from 60% board exams and 40% internal assessments. Special rules will help sportspersons and students with special needs. Schools say this is a good step but needs careful planning to work well. The new system follows the National Education Policy and starts in the 2026-27 academic year. (Updated 27 Aug 2025, 22:07 IST; source: link)
