Agartala Government Medical College will add 100 more MBBS seats, increasing total seats to 200. The college will also start super speciality medical courses soon. Chief Minister Manik Saha said the government is working with the National Medical Council to make this happen. Currently, the college has 100 MBBS and 89 postgraduate seats. The government is also recruiting specialist doctors for hospitals, but there is a shortage in the state. So far, only 45 of 180 specialist posts were filled. The government plans to recruit more doctors who have completed MD and MS courses. Steps are also taken to hire technical and paramedical staff to improve healthcare in Tripura. The Chief Minister clarified that low exam marks of some newly recruited medical officers do not affect their medical practice because they have completed MBBS and passed NEET exams.
