Assam faces a significant shortage of teaching staff in government-run higher education institutions, with more than 520 reserved posts remaining unfilled. The state assembly received details about these vacancies on Thursday, revealing that positions meant for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Classes categories are lying empty across colleges and universities. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu presented the information in a written response to a question raised by the Leader of Opposition, Debabrata Saikia. Additionally, 775 general category posts also remain unfilled in these colleges and universities. The vacancies span across different reserved categories, with OBC positions accounting for the largest share, followed by ST and SC posts in both colleges and universities.
