The West Bengal government has directed all state-run and state-aided schools to include the song 'Banglar Mati Banglar Jol' in their morning assemblies with immediate effect. Written by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in 1905 as a protest against the partition of Bengal, this composition will now serve as the official state prayer song. The decision was approved by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and announced by Education Minister Bratya Basu. The song will be sung alongside the national anthem before classes commence each day. Previously, West Bengal schools had no specific prayer song prescribed apart from the national anthem. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has already sent notifications to all affiliated schools to implement this directive mandatorily. Officials believe this initiative will promote communal unity and social harmony among students.
