Seven Indian institutions secured positions in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings: Asia, announced on Tuesday. The list includes five Indian Institutes of Technology — IIT-Delhi, IIT-Madras, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Kanpur, and IIT-Kharagpur — alongside the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and Delhi University. Overall, 130 Indian universities featured in the rankings, with 20 in the top 200 and 66 in the top 500. IIT-Delhi, ranked 59th, retained its position as India's best-performing institute for the fifth consecutive year. Compared to the previous year, 36 Indian institutions improved their rankings, while 105 saw a decline. The assessment is based on 11 indicators tailored to Asia's educational landscape. India demonstrated particular strength in research metrics and faculty qualifications, dominating several key categories across the region.

India's Research and Faculty Excellence in Asia
India excelled in the 'Papers per Faculty' indicator, placing five universities in Asia's top 10 and 28 in the top 50 — more than twice China's count. The country also secured 46 universities in the top 100 for this metric. Leading the research achievements were Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal, followed by Bharathiar University, IISc, Anna University, and IIT-Madras. In the 'Staff with PhD' category, India placed 45 institutions in the top 100, with National Institute of Technology, Nagaland, and Mother Teresa Women's University sharing second place regionally. Nine institutions, including IISc and multiple IITs, jointly held fourth position, reflecting India's robust investment in faculty development and research-driven education.
