Delhi nursery admission update: key points for applicants

2 min read

Parents in Delhi are waiting for the Directorate of Education to announce the official admission schedule for entry-level classes in private unaided schools for the 2026-27 academic session. The department recently issued a circular on October 24 that revised the admission age for Class 1 to 6 years, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020. The foundational stage now includes three pre-primary levels—Nursery, Lower KG, and Upper KG—before Class 1. The admission process is expected to start next month, following a similar pattern to last year when the calendar was released on November 11. Schools will publish details about application dates, selection lists, and waiting lists. A non-refundable registration fee of 25 rupees will be charged from each applicant seeking nursery admission.

Revised Age Criteria and Expected Admission Timeline

The new age structure requires children to be 3 years old for Nursery, 4 years for Lower KG, 5 years for Upper KG, and 6 years for Class 1, all calculated as on March 31, 2026. Last year, the admission calendar was released on November 11, with the process starting on November 28. Applications closed on December 20, followed by score publication on January 10. The first selection list appeared on January 17, a second list on February 3 for vacant seats, and admissions concluded on March 14, 2025. A similar schedule is anticipated this year, with schools expected to follow the same procedural framework set by the education department.
