2 min read

The Delhi government has decided to recruit 5,346 Trained Graduate Teachers for government and municipal schools to improve classroom teaching quality for students in classes 6 to 10. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the initiative on social media, emphasizing personalised support and quality education. The application window opened on 9 October and will close on 7 November, according to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education on 3 October. Despite this recruitment drive, experts point out that around 10,000 teaching posts remain vacant across Delhi's state schools, adversely affecting the student-teacher ratio. Currently, over 70,000 teachers serve more than 18 lakh students in Delhi's state schools. Additionally, the government has expanded private cleaning services to 621 more schools, adding to the 117 already covered, ensuring better sanitation standards across campuses.

Sanitation System Upgraded with Private Cleaning Services

The Delhi government has revamped the sanitation system in state schools by extending private cleaning services to 621 additional institutions, building on the 117 schools already using such services. The Directorate of Education signed an agreement with a private organisation to maintain the highest cleanliness standards. Departmental officers will conduct regular inspections to ensure proper implementation. Schools not covered by private contracts have been assigned three to four sweepers based on student enrollment. School heads must monitor sanitation work closely and ensure cleaning is completed at least 30 minutes before school sessions begin. Attendance records for private sweepers must be maintained, and only female workers can clean girls' toilet facilities.
