Teachers Accused of Physical Abuse and Intimidation

2 min read

Three teachers from a government primary school in Shimla district have been charged with repeatedly assaulting an eight-year-old Dalit student and subjecting him to cruel treatment. The accused include the headmaster and two other teachers who allegedly beat the boy for nearly a year, causing serious injuries including a bleeding ear and damaged eardrum. The child's father filed a police complaint describing how the teachers placed a scorpion in his son's pants inside the school toilet. Police have registered a case under multiple sections, including the Juvenile Justice Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The complaint also highlights caste-based discrimination at the school, where students from different communities were made to sit separately. The accused teachers allegedly threatened the family with severe consequences if they reported the matter. This incident is part of a pattern of violence and discrimination in Rohru sub-division schools.

Teachers Accused of Physical Abuse and Intimidation

The father of the Class 1 student filed a complaint naming headmaster Devendra and teachers Babu Ram and Kritika Thakur for systematic physical assault over almost a year. The continuous beatings reportedly caused the child's ear to bleed and damaged his eardrum. In a particularly disturbing act, the teachers allegedly took the boy to the school toilet and placed a scorpion in his pants. The accused warned the child that complaining at home would lead to his arrest. On October 30, the headmaster threatened to expel the student and warned the family of severe consequences, saying they would face dire repercussions if the matter became public or was reported on social media.
