JEE Mains 2026 update: key points for applicants

2 min read

The National Testing Agency has clarified that calculators will not be permitted in the Joint Entrance Examination Mains 2026, despite earlier confusion caused by a typographic error in the official Information Bulletin. The document mentioned an onscreen calculator during the Computer-Based Test, but NTA confirmed this feature is part of a generic testing platform and does not apply to JEE Mains. Candidates cannot use calculators in any form during the examination. NTA regretted the error and advised students to download the revised Information Bulletin from the official website. Meanwhile, registration for JEE Mains 2026 Session 1 started on October 31, 2025, and will remain open until November 27, 2025. The exam is scheduled between January 21 and January 30, 2026, and will be conducted in 13 languages across various exam cities nationwide.

Calculator Use Not Allowed Despite Information Bulletin Error

NTA issued an official notice clarifying that although Appendix-VIII of the JEE Mains 2026 Information Bulletin mentioned an onscreen standard calculator for Computer-Based Tests, this feature does not apply to JEE Mains. The calculator mention was part of a generic test conducting platform used by NTA for other examinations. The agency emphasized that calculators in any form—physical or digital—are strictly prohibited during JEE Mains 2026. NTA apologized for the typographic error that caused confusion among candidates and urged students to refer to the revised Information Bulletin available on the official NTA JEE website. Candidates preparing for the exam should note this important clarification while planning their examination strategy.
