21-06-24: The UGC-NET exam scheduled for June 2024 was cancelled by the National Testing Agency (NTA) following reports that the question paper might have been leaked. The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Intelligence unit (I4C) reportedly found information about the leak, including details and screenshots of a sample paper. This information was then shared with the Education Ministry, which along with the NTA decided to cancel the exam to ensure fairness for all the students.
While the authenticity of the leaked paper on Telegram remains unconfirmed, the incident highlights the growing vulnerability of exams conducted online or involving digital components. Telegram, a messaging platform known for its focus on privacy, has become a breeding ground for alleged exam paper leaks in recent times.
NTA has yet to officially comment on the specifics of the alleged leak. However, the Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, has confirmed that the leaked paper on Telegram appeared to match the actual exam questions. This has further fueled speculation and anger among students who feel their hard work has been compromised.
Cancellation of the UGC-NET exam has thrown a wrench into the plans of many students. Many had taken leaves from work, travelled long distances, and invested significant time and money in exam preparation. Now, they face the uncertainty of waiting for a rescheduled exam date.
It’s important to remember that these are just allegations, and there is no confirmation that the papers being sold on Telegram were genuine. The NTA is yet to officially comment on the matter. Students who were preparing for the exam are advised to stay updated and wait for the official announcement by NTA regarding the next steps.
