India's First Railway Coach Factory Started in Chennai in 1955Saralnama

India's first Integral Coach Factory (ICF) opened in Chennai. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru inaugurated it. The factory cost ₹7.4 crore to build. It spans 511 acres and employs over 9,300 workers. ICF makes 175+ coach types, including Vande Bharat Express. It began with 350 shells yearly in 1955. Production grew steadily. In 1990, ICF made 1,000 coaches in a year for the first time.
