School Holiday Tomorrow (September 29): Maharashtra and Telangana Announce Closures Amid Heavy Rainfall

2 min read

New Delhi, September 28 – Schools and colleges in several parts of Maharashtra and Telangana will remain closed on Monday, September 29, 2025, due to heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, and Pune, warning of extremely heavy rainfall till September 30. District administrations in Latur and Nanded have officially confirmed closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres for tomorrow. Other districts under orange alert, including Nashik and Satara, are also expected to suspend classes.

In Telangana, continuous downpours since September 26 have led to severe waterlogging in Hyderabad’s IT corridors and multiple districts. The state government has declared a school holiday across several districts, including Adilabad, Nirmal, Warangal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad.

Emergency measures are in place. The Indian Army’s Southern Command rescued over 170 people stranded in the Marathwada region over the weekend. Flights from Hyderabad were diverted, and officials in both states have urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel.

Authorities caution that while holidays have been declared to ensure student safety, parents and students should continue to monitor district collectorate orders and school notifications for local updates. IMD has also indicated that rainfall activity may extend into early October, coinciding with festive travel.

With large parts of Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Telangana under high alert, tomorrow’s closures underline the disruption caused by this year’s extended monsoon spell.
