Sikkim, September 27, 2025: MIT University Sikkim will officially start its first academic session on July 10, 2025, offering industry-integrated degree programs at its Melli campus.
The Government of Sikkim established the Management and Information Technology University through Act No. 11 of 2024 as a state-recognized institution meeting global academic standards.
Mandatory Industry Training Component
Unlike traditional universities, MIT University Sikkim requires students to complete practical assignments with companies as part of their degree programs. This ensures students gain exposure to real projects before graduation.
All courses follow the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework, emphasizing applied learning and skill development over theoretical knowledge alone.
UGC Recognition Process Underway
The university has submitted necessary documents to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for inclusion in the national database. Faculty qualifications align with UGC norms, with several professors bringing international research and teaching experience.
Regional Preference in Admissions
25% of total seats are reserved for Sikkim students, while applicants from northeastern states receive preference in the admission process. Merit and need-based scholarships will cover up to 25% of enrolled students.
Modern Infrastructure and Facilities
The Melli campus features smart classrooms, digital libraries, and modern hostel facilities with clean energy and waste management systems integrated throughout the infrastructure.
Diverse Course Offerings
Programs span Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Para Medical sciences, and creative disciplines. Specialized courses include international business and mountain tourism, addressing regional opportunities.
The university aims to provide advanced education within Sikkim, reducing students’ need to relocate to metropolitan centers for higher studies.
