New Delhi, September 27, 2025: A Class VI student has filed a case in the Supreme Court against entrance tests for CM SHRI schools in Delhi.
Janmesh Sagar, an 11-year-old studying at Government Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, says the CM SHRI schools entrance test breaks education laws. He faced the test on September 13, 2025, when applying for admission.
Student Claims Rights Violation
The petition argues that CM SHRI schools entrance tests go against Article 21-A of the Constitution, which gives every child the right to free education. It also violates Section 13 of the RTE Act 2009 that stops schools from using any screening tests.
Janmesh applied for CM SHRI schools admission for the 2025-26 school year but had to take an entrance test because of a July 23, 2025 Delhi government order.
Legal Fight Over School Policy
The case says CM SHRI schools must follow the RTE Act rules like other schools. The Delhi High Court earlier said these schools were different, but the student’s lawyers disagree.
What Student Wants
Janmesh wants the court to stop CM SHRI schools entrance tests and use a lottery system instead. He also wants the July government order cancelled.
This case could change how thousands of students get admission to these popular Delhi schools.
