Delhi School Admission: HC Upholds Right of Autistic Child to Continue in Private School

1 min read

New Delhi, September 25: The Delhi High Court has ruled in favour of a girl diagnosed with mild autism, directing a private school to allow her to continue education under the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

The child had earlier secured admission under the sibling quota, but the school attempted to exclude her citing “inability to cope.” The court held that schools must provide reasonable support, such as shadow teachers, to ensure inclusive education.

Legal experts say the verdict will have far-reaching implications for students with disabilities across India, ensuring that private institutions cannot deny admission on grounds of disability.
