Cheteshwar Pujara retired from all cricket on 24 Aug 2025. He was known for his strong batting in Test matches. Pujara said India’s plan to use spin-friendly pitches at home to win World Test Championship points backfired. These pitches helped spinners but made batting very hard. He said such pitches hurt Indian batsmen and Test cricket. Pujara wants India to use fair pitches where bat and ball compete well. He hopes matches last longer, ideally into the fourth or fifth day. Pujara also encouraged young players to focus on all cricket formats. India lost a home Test series to New Zealand last year, their first in 12 years, partly due to these pitches.
