R Ashwin Retires from IPL After 16 Years of Cricket

Ravichandran Ashwin retired from the Indian Premier League (IPL) on 27 Aug 2025. The 38-year-old off-spinner played 221 IPL matches and took 187 wickets. He started with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2009 and played for teams like Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals. Ashwin rejoined CSK in 2025 for ₹9.75 crore. He thanked the IPL, BCCI, and all franchises for the memories. Ashwin said his IPL career ends but he will explore other cricket leagues worldwide. He retired from international cricket in December 2024. Ashwin is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. His last IPL season saw him take seven wickets in nine games.
