Divya Deshmukh Wins 2025 Women's Chess World Cup in Batumi

Divya Deshmukh from Nagpur won the 2025 FIDE Women's Chess World Cup. She beat Grandmaster Humpy Koneru in the tiebreaks held on 28 July in Batumi, Georgia. Divya became India's 88th Grandmaster and the fourth Indian woman to earn this title. The tournament had 107 players and used a knockout format. Divya and Humpy both qualified for the 2026 Women's Candidates Tournament. Divya said this win is just the start of her journey. The final match went to rapid tiebreaks after two draws in classical games. Divya won the second rapid game with the black pieces. She received $50,000 as prize money.
