Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers may return to the Indian Premier League in a new role. He retired from cricket in 2021 and said playing a full season is unlikely now. De Villiers played for Delhi Daredevils from 2008 to 2010 and then for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from 2011. He scored 4,522 runs in 157 matches for RCB with two centuries and 37 half-centuries. He holds the IPL record for the highest partnership with Virat Kohli in 2016. De Villiers said his heart is with RCB and he is open to coaching or mentoring if the team wants him. He made 5,162 runs in 184 IPL games overall. Fans may see him involved with RCB again, but not as a full-time player. (Updated 26 Aug 2025, 23:29 IST; source: link)
