Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket on Sunday. He was left out of the Test team and the West Zone’s Duleep Trophy squad. Pujara scored 7,195 runs in 103 Test matches and was India’s eighth-highest run-scorer. Despite good performances in domestic cricket and county matches, he was not selected for the England tour or the Duleep Trophy. These snubs influenced his decision to retire. Pujara had expressed his wish to play for India recently and played well in the Ranji Trophy and for Sussex. His retirement came shortly after the Saurashtra Cricket Association said he wanted to continue playing Ranji Trophy cricket. A source said not playing in the IPL and being left out of key teams made it hard for him to continue. Pujara was known as a solid No. 3 batter and a Test cricket purist.
