The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and fantasy sports platform Dream11 have officially ended their sponsorship agreement following the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which bans real-money online gaming and related advertising. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board will not engage with such organizations in the future. Dream11 held a title sponsorship contract with the Indian cricket team from 2023 to 2026 worth USD 44 million (Rs 358 crore). The new legislation prohibits offering or promoting online money gaming services, impacting the revenue model of fantasy sports companies. Dream11 stated it will comply with the law and has ceased paid contests, shifting to free-to-play social games. The BCCI is now seeking new sponsorship ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. Individual cricketers’ endorsements with such apps are also expected to be affected by the bill. (Updated 25 Aug 2025, 11:58 IST; source: link)
