Sourav Ganguly has indicated he may take on a full-time position with Delhi Capitals ahead of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League. The former Indian captain currently serves as Director of Cricket for JSW Sports, which co-owns the franchise alongside the GMR Group. Over the past season, Ganguly worked primarily behind the scenes on squad building, auction planning, and performance tracking rather than being present in the dugout. He acknowledged the dual ownership structure that influenced his ceremonial role. After discussions with co-owner and chairperson Parth Jindal, Ganguly committed to full-time involvement with Pretoria Capitals, the franchise's SA20 team, handling day-to-day operations. This engagement is expected to extend into the upcoming IPL season. Delhi Capitals, who have never won the IPL title, recently appointed Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao as head coach and director of cricket respectively after Ricky Ponting's departure.

Ganguly's Expanded Commitment to Delhi Capitals
Ganguly explained his evolving role with Delhi Capitals, noting that while he worked behind the scenes last season on squad construction and auction strategy, he was not physically present in the dugout for two years. He praised co-owner Parth Jindal for his dedication since taking charge in 2019, a period when DC performed strongly. Following recent discussions with Jindal, Ganguly decided to commit fully for a month to Pretoria Capitals, managing daily activities and participating in the auction process. He confirmed this full-time involvement will carry over into the upcoming IPL season. The franchise operates under a co-ownership model between JSW Sports and GMR Group, alternating control in two-year cycles.
