Bavuma confident despite poor record on Indian soil

South Africa will begin a two-match Test series against India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Friday, November 14. The Proteas have not won a Test match in India since 2010, losing seven consecutive Tests across three tours. Captain Temba Bavuma expressed that winning in India would be the second greatest achievement for his team, only behind their World Test Championship final victory against Australia at Lord's Cricket Ground earlier this year. Bavuma remains confident despite the challenging record, noting both sides possess significant talent and some inexperience. Interestingly, he revealed that former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson offered him brief advice before the tour, jokingly suggesting he should focus on winning the toss. New Zealand had whitewashed India 3-0 in a Test series last year. Bavuma's side is eager to end their long drought on Indian soil.

South Africa have struggled in India recently, losing seven consecutive Tests across three tours. However, Bavuma believes his team can reverse this trend. The captain acknowledged the magnitude of the challenge, stating that some players have experienced the disappointment before and understand what lies ahead. He highlighted that both teams have considerable talent mixed with some inexperience. Bavuma emphasized that his players are eager to test themselves against top-quality opposition. Under his leadership, South Africa have not lost a single Test match, culminating in their WTC final triumph against Australia earlier this year.
