Mumbai's chief selector Sanjay Patil has denied earlier media claims that Rohit Sharma had confirmed his participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Patil clarified that no message has been received from the star batter regarding his availability for the domestic tournament. He added that Mumbai would welcome Rohit if he decides to play, as it would benefit the younger players. Earlier reports suggested Rohit had already communicated with the Mumbai Cricket Association, while Virat Kohli was yet to confirm. Both players currently represent India only in One-Day Internationals. With the BCCI directive requiring players to participate in domestic cricket when not on national duty, playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy becomes crucial for their selection in the ODI squad led by Shubman Gill. Patil praised the BCCI, Ajit Agarkar, and Gautam Gambhir for encouraging Indian players to turn out for their domestic teams.

Rohit's Vijay Hazare Trophy Performance
Rohit Sharma, who began his career as a middle-order batting all-rounder, has compiled respectable numbers in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In 18 matches spanning 17 innings, he has scored 581 runs with a batting average of 38.73. His tournament record includes one century and three half-centuries, showcasing his ability in 50-over domestic cricket. Notably, he maintains an impressive strike-rate of 90.92, reflecting his aggressive batting approach. While it took time for Rohit to establish himself at the international level, these statistics demonstrate his consistent contributions to Mumbai in India's premier domestic one-day competition over the years.
