NZ vs WI 2025-West Indies announce squad for ODI series against New Zealand

2 min read

West Indies have named their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, with several notable changes. John Campbell makes a return to the format after a six-year gap, having last played ODIs in 2019. His strong performances in domestic red-ball cricket and his 278 runs in the Super50 Cup have earned him another chance. Johann Layne and Shamar Springer receive their first call-ups to the ODI side. Matthew Forde returns after recovering from a shoulder injury sustained during the T20I series. The trio of Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, and Ramon Simmonds have been left out. Shai Hope will continue to lead the side. The series begins on November 16, with subsequent matches on November 19 and November 22. This comes after West Indies lost the T20I series 3-1.

New Faces and Returning Players in Squad

The 15-member squad includes John Campbell, who last featured in ODIs during 2019. Campbell's recall follows impressive domestic form, particularly his 179 off 137 balls against Ireland in Dublin in his sixth ODI. He was also Jamaica's top scorer in the Super50 Cup with 278 runs at a strike rate of 102.20. Johann Layne and Shamar Springer earn their maiden ODI call-ups, while Matthew Forde returns after recovering from a shoulder dislocation. Ackeem Auguste, who debuted in Bangladesh in October, retains his place. Keacy Carty and Alick Athanaze also feature in the squad led by Shai Hope.
