BAN vs IRE 2025-Nahid Rana fined for violating ICC Code of Conduct-latest

2 min read

Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana has been penalized for misconduct during the first Test against Ireland at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The 23-year-old pacer received a 25% fine on his match fees and one demerit point added to his disciplinary record for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct. The incident occurred on Day 1 when Nahid threw the ball inappropriately at Irish batsman Cade Carmichael during the 27th over. Match referee Andy Pycroft imposed the sanction after Nahid accepted the charge without requiring a formal hearing. The violation falls under Article 2.9, which addresses throwing cricket equipment at players in an inappropriate or dangerous manner. This marks Nahid's first offense in a 24-month period. In the match itself, Bangladesh took a commanding position by the end of Day 2, leading by 52 runs with two wickets down in their first innings.

Details of the Code of Conduct Violation

The incident happened during Day 1 of the Test match when Nahid Rana fielded the ball in his follow-through on the fifth delivery of the 27th over of Ireland's innings. He then threw the ball inappropriately toward Cade Carmichael, the number three batsman, hitting him on the pads. Carmichael had not left his crease, suggesting the throw was made out of frustration rather than any legitimate attempt at a run-out. The right-arm pacer violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which prohibits throwing a ball or cricket equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner. Match officials including on-field umpires Ahsan Raza, Sam Nogajski, third umpire Richard Illingworth, and fourth umpire Tanvir Ahmed leveled the charge.
