IPL 2026-‘Who will be your all-rounder if Jadeja leaves?’-Former India opener

2 min read

A possible player swap between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2026 has sparked widespread debate. The trade would see wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson move to CSK in exchange for all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja joining RR. Former India opener Kris Srikkanth has expressed concerns about CSK losing Jadeja, emphasizing that quality all-rounders are crucial for balance in T20 cricket. He questioned who would fill the all-rounder role if Jadeja departs, noting that options like Cameron Green are not proven match-winners. Srikkanth also addressed claims that Samson could be groomed as MS Dhoni's successor, pointing out that CSK already has Urvil Patel, a wicketkeeper-batter, in their squad. While acknowledging Samson's talent, Srikkanth highlighted that both players had underwhelming campaigns in IPL 2025, with Jadeja getting limited batting opportunities and Samson failing to convert starts into substantial scores despite opening the innings.

All-Rounder Role Critical for CSK Balance

Srikkanth emphasized that losing Jadeja would leave a significant gap in CSK's lineup. He stressed that having a quality all-rounder is essential in T20 cricket and questioned who would fulfill that role if the trade happens. The former cricketer dismissed Cameron Green as a suitable replacement, stating that Green is primarily a batsman who can bowl but not a deadly bowler or match-winner. Srikkanth praised Jadeja's ability to impact games through batting, bowling, and fielding. Regarding the suggestion that Samson could succeed Dhoni, he noted CSK already has Urvil Patel, a wicketkeeper-batter who could be developed for that role instead of pursuing Samson.
