AUS vs IND 2025-Suryakumar Yadav takes dig at Mohsin Naqvi over Asia Cup 2025

2 min read

India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav made a playful comment about receiving a trophy after India's series victory against Australia, which many viewed as a jab at Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi. The remark referred to the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy. India won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan in Dubai by five wickets, but refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi due to his anti-India statements following the Pahalgam terror attacks. Naqvi subsequently locked the trophy inside the Asian Cricket Council headquarters in Dubai. After the Australia series, Suryakumar emphasized how good it felt to actually hold a trophy. Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that discussions between the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards have restarted, with ICC officials helping facilitate talks during a recent meeting in Dubai.

Trophy Controversy and Recent Developments

The Asia Cup 2025 ended controversially despite India's five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the final held in Dubai. India declined to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both PCB chairman and Asian Cricket Council president, protesting his anti-India stance after the Pahalgam terror attacks. Naqvi then locked the trophy inside ACC headquarters in Dubai. When asked about lifting the Australia series trophy in Brisbane, Suryakumar remarked it felt great to finally touch a trophy, noting that the women's World Cup trophy had also arrived home. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that talks between the boards resumed during an ICC meeting in Dubai, with officials facilitating discussions. Both boards reportedly remain optimistic about resolving the dispute soon.
