India's opening batsman Abhishek Sharma has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the fastest player to score 1000 runs in T20 International cricket. He reached this landmark in just 528 balls, surpassing several top players including his captain Suryakumar Yadav, England's Phil Salt, and Australia's Glenn Maxwell. The record was broken during the fifth T20I match between India and Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. Before this match, Abhishek had accumulated 989 runs from 27 innings, featuring two centuries and six half-centuries. The left-handed batsman, who made his international debut in July 2024 against Zimbabwe, currently holds the number one position in the ICC Men's T20I Batters Rankings. His rapid rise has established him as a critical player for India's future T20 campaigns.

Record-Breaking Achievement and Rankings
Abhishek Sharma broke the previous record held by Suryakumar Yadav, who reached 1000 runs in 573 balls. Phil Salt of England stands third on the list with 599 balls, followed by Glenn Maxwell of Australia at 604 balls. New Zealand's Finn Allen and West Indies' Andre Russell share the fifth position, both achieving the milestone in 609 deliveries. The Punjab-born cricketer's breakthrough came during the 2025 Asia Cup, where he scored 314 runs in seven innings and earned the Player of the Tournament award. He is expected to play a vital role for India at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled in India and Sri Lanka.
