The International Cricket Council has announced that the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will feature 28 matches across men's and women's competitions. Each tournament will include six teams: the top-ranked nation from five global regions—Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania—plus the United States as the host nation. The sixth team in each category will be decided through a qualifying tournament, with details yet to be announced. Cricket fixtures are set to begin on July 12 at the newly built Fairgrounds Stadium, located about 50 kilometres from Los Angeles. Discussions are also underway for cricket's inclusion in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta confirmed meaningful talks with Brisbane organizers and representatives from the International Olympic Committee. Cricket will return to the Olympics after 128 years, presenting a transformative opportunity for the sport to reach millions of new fans worldwide.

Cricket's Olympic Return and Regional Games Participation
Before cricket's Olympic comeback, the sport will appear in several major multi-sport events. It is scheduled for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, the 2027 African Games in Cairo, Egypt, and the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta emphasized that cricket's Olympic inclusion marks a transformative opportunity, potentially attracting millions of new fans. The inclusion also promises significant access to government funding, allowing deeper investments in the game. Regional competitions will provide further prominence to cricket in areas with limited affiliation to the sport, bolstering high-performance and grassroots programs in several nations. The ICC continues engaging with sports federations and governments to push for cricket's inclusion in more regional tournaments.
