T20 World Cup 2026-Narendra Modi Stadium earmarked to host final, India vs

2 min read

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been chosen to host the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, with the complete schedule expected to be announced soon. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reduced the number of host cities compared to the 2023 ODI World Cup, ensuring each venue hosts at least six matches. Five Indian cities—Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai—have been shortlisted as primary venues. Sri Lanka, as co-host, will also stage matches across three stadiums, though final venues remain unconfirmed. Bengaluru and Lucknow face uncertainty regarding their participation in the 20-team tournament. The tournament is set to begin in the first week of February 2025, with the final scheduled approximately a month later. Both the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket have already submitted their proposed schedules to the ICC.

Venue Selection and Special Arrangements

The BCCI has excluded stadiums that hosted the ICC Women's 50-over World Cup earlier this year, including venues in Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Indore, and Navi Mumbai, from consideration for the men's T20 World Cup. The ICC has informed the BCCI that if Sri Lanka qualifies for the semi-finals, their match will take place in Colombo. Additionally, if Pakistan reaches the final, their knockout games will be held at a neutral venue, following diplomatic agreements reached in earlier meetings. This arrangement addresses sensitive political considerations while ensuring the tournament proceeds smoothly across both co-hosting nations.
