‘Don’t think it’s happening’ – Aakash Chopra on Washington Sundar’s rumoured — —

2 min read

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has shared his views on recent speculation about player trades ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. He believes Washington Sundar is unlikely to join Chennai Super Kings despite reports linking the all-rounder to the franchise as a replacement for retired Ravichandran Ashwin. Chopra noted that while Sundar received limited playing time with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, he enjoys the team atmosphere and prefers to remain with the franchise. Additionally, Chopra discussed KL Rahul's rumoured move to Kolkata Knight Riders, suggesting it could resolve multiple challenges for the team. However, he questioned what KKR could offer in return, particularly whether they would be willing to release Rinku Singh, whom Delhi Capitals might want. Chopra expressed doubt about Gujarat Titans releasing Sundar easily, despite CSK's interest in the Chennai-born player.

Sundar Unlikely To Move Despite CSK Interest

Chopra stated that Washington Sundar is not expected to join Chennai Super Kings, even though the franchise needs a replacement after Ravichandran Ashwin retired from the IPL. Sundar himself reportedly told Ashwin he has no plans to leave Gujarat Titans. While the all-rounder acknowledged receiving fewer opportunities in IPL 2025, he appreciates the team environment and setup. Chopra emphasized that Sundar would fit seamlessly at CSK, being from Chennai, but believes Gujarat Titans will not easily part with him. The spin-bowling all-rounder's preference to stay with his current franchise makes the trade unlikely despite strong interest from CSK.
