The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is preparing to become the first education board in India to conduct board exams online from 2022. Due to the pandemic, classes could not be conducted in physical mode, due to which there has been a lot of loss to the studies of the students. To avoid any such academic loss in future, NIOS has also recently launched a first of its kind virtual school for its 40 lakh learners.
The Virtual School is the first school in India to focus on teaching and learning patterns through non-traditional approaches such as Virtual Live Classrooms and Virtual Labs.

NIOS is the only education board in the country which provides secondary and senior secondary education in 14 languages. Due to the COVID situation, NIOS also could not conduct its board exams as well as on-demand exams in 2020 and 2021. Annually it conducts board exams for about five lakh candidates.
NIOS For education now of hybrid mode Option will choose
However, keeping in mind the digital divide, NIOS will opt for hybrid mode keeping both online and offline options open for the time being. According to Dr. Rajeev Kumar Singh, Director (Academic), “Due to the digital divide, we are keeping the option of offline examination open, as one of the main objectives of NIOS is to reach out to the unreached.
Out of six lakh villages of the country, 25 thousand villages still do not have internet. Also, the latest data has shown that only 11% of children have access to online classes. But we will gradually move towards online mode only for board exams.”
