The National Testing Agency (NTA) this year has released the rank list for national level entrance examinations, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2021 for admission to engineering and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 for admission in medical examinations for the above-aged. The provision of giving preference to the candidate has been removed. Earlier, in the rank list of NEET and JEE Main, first priority was given to those candidates who were older.
It can be understood in this way that before now if two candidates have got 720 marks in the examination, then the preference of these two was given to the older candidate. At the same time, the move to remove the provision of giving preference to older age will be counted as a major change in the national level medical and engineering entrance examination.
Let us inform that for preparing the rank list of JEE Main and NEET, NTA uses a tie-breaking policy so that no two candidates are given the same rank.
Age factor used in NEET 2020
It is noteworthy that this year’s JEE and NEET information booklets do not mention the age of the candidates for the tie-breaking policy. Age factor was used to decide the All India topper among two students in NEET 2020. In fact, Soyab Aftab of Odisha and Akanksha Singh of Uttar Pradesh both scored 720 out of 720 marks. Although Soyab was given All India Rank 1 due to his old age.
in 2020 JEE This was the tie-breaking method for mains
In 2020, for JEE Main Engineering exam, the tie-breaking method was that candidates with higher NTA scores in Maths would be given preference, followed by candidates scoring in Chemistry and Physics, and if there were still two students If there is a tie between them, then the candidate with less negative responses will be favored, then the candidate older in age will be given preference. However, the age factor has been removed for tie-breaking for JEE Main exam this year.
NEET Age factor will not be given priority from this year
Similarly, in NEET exam this year, if there is a tie between two students, it will now be resolved in this order instead of age factor – candidate with higher marks/percentage marks in biology subject will be given preference, then Candidates with lesser ratio of number of wrong answers and correct answers in all subjects will be given preference if the tie still persists in Chemistry. The new rule will be applicable in the NEET exam of 2021.
